The Benefits Of Using Asphalt Paving Over Concrete

Construction & Contractors Blog

When it comes to paving your driveway, there are a number of reasons why asphalt is preferred over concrete. While concrete has a wide range of uses, it is susceptible to cracking or breaking when in regular use for a driveway. As the concrete dries, it is very unforgiving and doesn't offer the same resilience that asphalt does. When hot asphalt is applied to your driveway and is allowed to cool, it is a strong substance that can manage driveway traffic while also having some flexibility. If the surface below the asphalt isn't perfect, this isn't a big deal. When the surface below a concrete driveway is not perfectly flat, cracking can occur.

It's Easier to Work With Asphalt

When it comes to removing a damaged driveway that needs to be replaced, asphalt is much easier to remove than concrete. When you need to dispose of the materials, you can recycle asphalt, while concrete can't be used again. The process of putting down an asphalt driveway is easier than a concrete one, and this means you are going to have a driveway faster. You are going to spend less money on labor when you go with an asphalt driveway.

Asphalt Driveways are Easier to Repair

Some of the cracks that form in an asphalt driveway are easy enough to repair, that the homeowner can do them. Cracks in concrete are more difficult to manage. When you discover damage on your asphalt driveway, you may be able to clean out the crack and fill it in yourself. You can also apply a sealcoat to your driveway every few years to keep the surface protected. A concrete driveway generally needs professional help when there is damage.

Asphalt is More Affordable

When you are looking for an affordable way to pave your driveway, an asphalt driveway is a much cheaper option. While prices may fluctuate because of oil prices, the cost of getting an asphalt driveway installed over a concrete one is much more affordable. The time it takes to install a cement driveway and the potential for mistakes in the installation make it a more expensive process overall.

Asphalt is an excellent material to use when paving your driveway. It's an affordable product that is installed quickly and can be easy to repair. When you need to make a decision on whether to use asphalt or cement for your driveway, asphalt paving has many benefits.

All About Building a Home

Welcome to my website. I'm Albert Frost. Besides my dad, one of my biggest role models was my uncle Rick. He was a construction contractor who would let me come on his construction sites and also taught me everything he knew about building homes, including how to install hardwood flooring and add insulation. I always wanted to grow up to build houses like my uncle. I used to help my uncle with a lot of the grunt work needed to make a home a reality. But then I hurt my back playing football. Until I heal completely, I'm going to devote as much of my time as possible to teaching others about various construction topics I'm interested in.
